Bleed the fuel linesWhen a diesel tractor with a mechanical fuel pump runs out of fuel, the best way to restart the engine is to bleed the fuel lines. Fill the tank with diesel and loosen the fuel filter and pump bleed screws. Then prime the fuel lines to remove air bubbles. Pump the spring loaded lever until diesel and no bubbles come from the bleed screw. Mine takes around 20 pumps. Close the screw. Try starting it. If it won't start, do what jshwhite above says in the second paragraph.
